Directs the provision of hospice volunteer support services in accordance with federal guidelines, in alignment with the specific needs of the organization and organizational mission. Provides administrative supervision, support, and accountability to the team of Volunteer Coordinators and Volunteer Assistant; while overseeing recruitment, retention, training, and creative program development. Integrates with the hospice management team to promote the organization’s mission and growth. Provides leadership in the field of hospice volunteer administration through active involvement in local and national organizations.
Job Responsibility:
Lead and manage the Volunteer Services department, including Volunteer Coordinators and support staff
provide supervision, coaching, performance evaluation, and corrective action as needed
Oversee volunteer recruitment, onboarding, training, and retention, ensuring a strong, engaged, and mission‑driven volunteer workforce
Ensure compliance with hospice regulations and organizational standards, including CMS volunteer requirements, documentation, and mandatory education
Develop, evaluate, and enhance volunteer programs, incorporating creative engagement strategies and technology where appropriate
Manage departmental operations and administration, including budgeting, reporting, productivity monitoring, and annual planning
Collaborate cross‑functionally with hospice leadership, clinical teams, and corporate services (HR, Compliance, Finance, Marketing, IS)
Participate in quality improvement and compliance initiatives (QAPI) to support service excellence
Represent the organization in the field of hospice volunteer administration, including participation in local and national professional activities
Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree
Minimum of two years’ experience working in a supervisory or management role
Minimum two years of experience working with volunteer support programs
Hospice or palliative care experience preferred
Nice to have:
Master’s degree
Hospice or palliative care experience
