Job Description

Come join our team working to help change the lives of some of the most vulnerable people in society. We are looking for a Gardening volunteer to help support us with gardening and working alongside our service users to support them with all things gardening related.

Job Responsibility

  • Digging, planting, maintaining, harvesting of plants and flowers
  • Sharing knowledge of plant, flower and food cultivation with service users
  • Offering a safe and comfortable experience for all service users, showing awareness of service users’ varying physical and mental well-being needs

Requirements

  • Be at least 18 years old
  • Be able to get to travel around the Manchester area
  • Have a good standard of spoken and written English
  • Be computer literate to be able to complete any online training
  • Have experience or qualifications in gardening, cultivation and harvesting of plants and flowers
  • This role requires a regular commitment every week
  • Be willing to have an enhanced DBS check
  • Have knowledge and understanding of human trafficking issues or willingness to learn
  • Have knowledge and understanding of mental health conditions or willingness to learn
  • Have an understanding of the importance of professional boundaries in the role
  • Have the ability to maintain confidentiality

  • Grounds and Outdoor Maintenance: Responsible for the presentation, upkeep, and general maintenance of all outdoor areas across Youthworks Port Hacking under the direction of the Maintenance Coordinator
  • Operate and maintain outdoor equipment including ride-on mowers, push mowers, edgers, blowers, and other groundskeeping tools safely and effectively
  • Mow lawns, edge pathways, prune gardens, maintain hedges, undertake bush care, and complete general gardening duties across the site
  • Carry out regular weeding, leaf blowing, rubbish collection, and outdoor cleaning to ensure grounds remain safe, tidy, and well presented
  • Monitor outdoors for hazards, damage, or maintenance needs and report issues promptly
  • Assist with maintaining outdoor equipment, storage areas, and workshops in a clean, organised, and safe condition
  • Maintenance Support: Assist the maintenance team with general repairs, upkeep, and maintenance tasks across cabins, accommodation facilities, amenities, and common areas as required
  • Respond to maintenance requests and assist with minor repairs, painting, refurbishment work, and manual handling tasks
  • Ensure all tools and equipment are used safely and any faults or hazards are reported promptly
  • Maintain a professional and positive approach while interacting with guests, staff, contractors, volunteers, and visitors
