Job Description:

The VMware / Virtualization Engineer role at NTT DATA involves designing, implementing, and managing enterprise virtualization environments. Candidates should have 5-10 years of experience with VMware technologies, including vSphere, ESXi, and vCenter. Responsibilities include managing high availability, performance optimization, and contributing to infrastructure modernization. Preferred qualifications include VMware certifications and cloud exposure.

Job Responsibility:

  • Design, deploy, and manage VMware vSphere infrastructure (ESXi, vCenter Server)
  • Administer and maintain clusters, resource pools, HA, DRS, and vMotion
  • Manage VM provisioning, templates, snapshots, and lifecycle management
  • Perform host upgrades, patching, and firmware updates
  • Configure and manage VMware HA, DRS, FT
  • Implement and manage Site Recovery Manager (SRM) (if applicable)
  • Participate in disaster recovery planning and testing
  • Configure and manage VMFS, NFS, vSAN (preferred)
  • Work with SAN/NAS storage environments
  • Configure virtual networking (vDS, VLANs, NSX – preferred)
  • Collaborate with network and storage teams for performance optimization
  • Monitor system performance and troubleshoot bottlenecks
  • Perform capacity planning and resource optimization
  • Maintain documentation for infrastructure and processes
  • Implement VMware security best practices
  • Manage RBAC, hardening guidelines, and patch management
  • Support audit and compliance requirements
  • Experience with PowerCLI scripting for automation
  • Exposure to Infrastructure as Code (Terraform/Ansible – preferred)
  • Support hybrid cloud integration (VMware Cloud, Azure/AWS)
  • Knowledge of container platforms (Tanzu, Kubernetes – preferred)
  • Provide L2/L3 support for virtualization issues
  • Perform root cause analysis and incident resolution
  • Participate in on-call rotation (if applicable)

Requirements:

  • 5–10+ years of experience in VMware administration
  • Strong hands-on experience with VMware vSphere (6.x / 7.x / 8.x)
  • Strong hands-on experience with ESXi host management
  • Strong hands-on experience with vCenter Server
  • Strong hands-on experience with HA, DRS, vMotion
  • Experience with storage technologies (SAN/NAS, vSAN preferred)
  • Good understanding of networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, VLANs)
  • Experience in patching, upgrades, and lifecycle management
  • Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills
  • Experience with Windows/Linux VM environments

Nice to have:

  • VMware certifications (VCP-DCV / VCAP preferred)
  • Experience with VMware NSX
  • Experience with VMware SRM
  • Cloud exposure (Azure VMware Solution / VMware on AWS)
  • Automation using PowerCLI, Ansible, or Terraform
  • Knowledge of backup solutions (Veeam, Commvault, etc.)
  • Experience with monitoring tools (vRealize Operations, etc.)
