The VMware Engineer is a key element within the Rackspace support infrastructure and is expected to provide a high level of technical support to our customer. This role owns complex customer issues which may take several days or weeks to resolve and keeps our customers updated through every step of the process. Responsible for the engineering, design, and development of hardware, software, and networking systems. Provides a framework for system development, maintenance, and enhancement efforts. Implements standards and guidelines of OS support. Analyzes systems and performance usability testing to ensure performance and reliability, enhance scalability, and meet security requirements. The Support Engineer is expected to take the initiative and advise on potential pitfalls that a customer may encounter and suggest alternatives which may better serve the stability and security of the customer's solution. Keeps informed of emerging technologies. Responsible for adhering to company security policies and procedures and any other relevant policies and standards as directed.
Job Responsibility:
Supporting VMware virtualization solutions based on business requirements
Deploying, configuring, and maintaining VMware Cloud Platform and vSphere infrastructure
Develop SDN networks in NSX-T with integration into physical Cisco ACI networks
Develop and support load balancing as a service through NSX-ALB integrated with vCenter and VMware Cloud Director
Ability to analyse problems and determine root cause, generating alternatives, evaluating, and selecting alternatives and implementing solutions
Monitoring system performance and optimizing configurations for maximum efficiency
Troubleshooting and resolving performance issues in the virtual environment
Infrastructure Capacity monitoring and optimization
Implementing security best practices and ensuring compliance with relevant standards
Managing access controls, permissions, and security configurations within VMware environments
Implementing and managing backup and recovery solutions for virtualized environments
Creating and maintaining disaster recovery plans for VMware infrastructure
Creating technical documentation, including system configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting guides
Generating regular reports on system performance, capacity, and utilization
Collaborating with other IT teams to integrate VMware solutions with existing systems
Providing technical support and assistance to resolve issues related to VMware infrastructure
Able to effectively collaborate within different product workstreams within the team and with Business units, identify current gaps and find a way to bridge them
Able to mentor other team members and provide them with technical and consultative guidance as needed
Drive customer facing and internal project calls along with project managers and provide technical guidance
Manage customer and internal escalations, collaborate with support and Design team as needed
Comfortable working both individually and as part of a team
Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, or related field (or equivalent experience)
Proven experience working with VMware technologies, including NSX-T, vSphere, vCenter, ESXi, vSAN, VMware Cloud Director, VMware Cloud Director Availability, Aria Operations, Aria operations for Logs and Aria operations for Networks
Experience in managing large-scale private cloud environments and/or work in a cloud service provider environment is highly desirable
Strong understanding of virtualization concepts, architecture, and best practices
Experience with scripting languages (e.g., PowerShell, Python) for automation and management tasks
Strong understanding of networking concepts, protocols, and technologies (TCP/IP, VLANs, routing, switching, etc.)
Experience with network security practices, firewalls, and access control lists (ACLs) within VMware environments
Familiarity with network virtualization and software-defined networking (SDN) concepts
Knowledge of storage, and server technologies related to virtualization
Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
Certifications such as VMware Certified Professional (VCP-DCV), VMware Specialist - Cloud Provider or VMware Certified Advanced Professional (VCAP) are often preferred
