At General Motors, our product teams are redefining mobility. Through a human-centered design process, we create vehicles and experiences designed not just to be seen, but to be felt. We’re turning today’s impossible into tomorrow’s standard—from breakthrough hardware and battery systems to intuitive design, intelligent software, and next-generation safety and entertainment features. Every day, our products move millions of people as we work to make driving safer, smarter, and more connected on a global scale. General Motors is looking for a Virtual Engineering Lead Engineer to join our Body Manufacturing Product Interface team. In this role, you will help shape vehicle designs early in development by ensuring they are manufacturable, robust, and aligned with body manufacturing requirements. You will use math-based tools, simulation, and digital validation methods to assess body-in-white manufacturability, identify risks early, and drive solutions with cross-functional partners. This role is ideal for an engineer who enjoys technical problem-solving, virtual validation, and improving manufacturing outcomes through data and innovation.
Job Responsibility:
Lead virtual engineering activities supporting body manufacturing requirements
Use Teamcenter, TcVIS, NX, and Tecnomatix Process Simulate/Designer to assess manufacturability
Evaluate weldability, access, sealing, part handling, and related body-in-white requirements
Partner with Product Engineering, Stamping, Paint, Body Manufacturing Engineering, and IT to resolve issues early
Drive best practices, process improvements, and tool innovation across global teams
Support KPI tracking, issue reporting, engineering changes, and virtual manufacturing studies
Help develop and improve tools, automation, and data-driven workflows
Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or equivalent technical experience
Experience with Siemens Teamcenter, TcVIS, NX, and Tecnomatix Process Simulate/Designer
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Experience with Excel and macro creation or similar automation tools
Experience collaborating across global and cross-functional teams
Nice to have:
Experience with body-in-white manufacturing, tooling, or joining processes
Knowledge of virtual simulation workflows and vehicle development milestones
Robot simulation experience
Familiarity with manufacturing requirements and automotive development processes
Coding or scripting experience in Python, Visual Basic, or C++
