Provides executive leadership for all subcontracted fabrication activities within an AISC-Certified structural steel fabrication organization. Accountable for ensuring outsourced fabrication meets AISC Certification requirements, Quality Management Systems, project specifications, and regulatory standards while supporting production capacity, schedules, and financial objectives.
Job Responsibility:
Ensure all sub-fabrication activities comply with AISC Certification Standards, QMS requirements, and regulatory standards
Develop and execute sub-fabrication strategy aligned with production workflows, capacity planning, and long-term growth
Build and maintain a vetted network of AISC-Certified sub-fabricators through qualification audits and performance reviews
Oversee sub-fabricator qualification, approval, onboarding, and ongoing performance management
Partner with Quality leadership to prepare for AISC audits and maintain proper documentation and traceability
Monitor fabrication progress and collaborate with Project Management, Detailing, and Production Control to resolve schedule or quality issues
Maintain financial accountability for subcontracted fabrication spend and cost controls
Review and approve major sub-fabrication awards, pricing structures, and change orders
Ensure sub-fabrication partners comply with OSHA regulations and company safety policies
Establish master agreements and contractual language reinforcing AISC compliance and quality expectations
Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Business, or related field (Master's preferred)
10–15 years of experience in structural steel fabrication with significant AISC-Certified environment leadership
Prior executive or senior leadership experience in steel fabrication or heavy industrial manufacturing
In-depth knowledge of AISC Certification Programs, QMS requirements, and audit processes
Strong understanding of AWS welding standards, material traceability, and inspection protocols
Comprehensive knowledge of structural steel fabrication, detailing workflows, and production control
Exceptional vendor qualification, negotiation, and contract management skills
Strong analytical, financial, and risk-management capabilities
Proficiency with ERP systems, production tracking tools, and Microsoft Office
Ability to travel to sub-fabrication facilities, shops, and job sites
