Job Description

The Vice President of Public Policy for Workforce Development at Strada Education Foundation will lead policy development and advocacy efforts to strengthen connections between education and employment, focusing on work-based learning and employer alignment. This role serves as a strategic bridge between the worlds of workforce systems (including employment data) and higher education to design policy options and positions to advance Strada’s priorities and support the execution of advocacy strategies at the state and federal levels.

Job Responsibility

  • Developing public policy options and positions designed to advance Strada’s five strategic focus areas and overall mission
  • Drafting background memos, policy briefs, analyzing legislation, and recommending policy measures
  • Cultivating relationships with policy and advocacy partners
  • Working in close collaboration with the State and Federal Government Relations teams to inform advocacy efforts
  • Providing internal teams and external partners with educational briefings and drafting testimony for Congressional hearings
  • Contributing to the design of advocacy strategies and related campaigns
  • Developing a learning agenda specific to state and federal needs
  • Actively cultivating collaborative working relationships with colleagues across Strada
  • Providing policy support to internal teams
  • Serving as an active, collaborative member of Strada’s PAC team
  • Attending external meetings and conferences on behalf of Strada
  • Providing counsel on the engagement of national organizations focused on policy development
  • Assisting with the development and execution of strategic partnerships, sometimes including targeted grants
  • Managing a targeted set of grants related to public policy issues

Requirements

  • Project leadership and management, working within internal cross-functional teams and external partners
  • Capacity to identify shared interests and work toward common aims in a nonpartisan manner

  • Working knowledge of federal or state higher education policy

Nice to have

  • Public sector experience working within a federal or state agency or in the federal or state legislative branch of government. A combination of federal and state experience would be a plus
