Job Description:

Canberra Veterinary Emergency Services are looking for a hard-working and proactive veterinary nurse assistant to join their team on a casual basis. The hospital is open 6 PM – 8 AM on weekdays and 24 hours on weekends and public holidays, providing emergency and critical care to pets. As a Vet Nursing Assistant, you’ll play a vital role in keeping our hospital running smoothly — supporting our vets and nurses, caring for patients, and maintaining our high standards of hygiene and safety.

Job Responsibility:

  • Assist with animal care and handling during busy emergency shifts
  • Maintain hospital hygiene, including patient enclosures, equipment, and floors
  • Manage laundry and bedding to ensure patient comfort
  • Prepare food for patients and wildlife as directed
  • Support infection control, safety, and biosecurity standards
  • Be part of a professional, supportive, and caring team

Requirements:

  • Passion for animal welfare and hands-on care
  • Reliable, well-presented, and team-focused
  • Available for early mornings, weekends, and public holidays
  • Reliable mode of transport and positive attitude are a must

Nice to have:

Working towards their cert II/III in Animal Care or who has just started their Cert IV in Vet Nursing
