The VDDV Global Technical Specialist – HV Battery Electrical Systems candidate will work on leading edge electrical system analytical techniques and methods to support GM’s future growth to electrify the automobile. This position makes a significant impact by providing technical leadership and guidance for high voltage battery electrical components and integrated systems. The VDDV Technical Specialist will work with the Electrical System Architects, RESS Development and validation teams to develop and virtually validate designs for new and future products, as well as identify priorities for future analysis growth. Additionally, the Technical Specialist will be responsible for setting the strategic technical vision for the team, including leading capability growth and facilitating standard work training globally.
Job Responsibility:
Provide technical direction to Analysis engineers working on virtual design, development, and validation of high voltage electrical system analysis
Ownership of benchmarking VDDV tools and methods versus industry trends and drive to close gaps
Seek out state of the art tools and methods by working closely with CAE suppliers
Lead capability development projects to virtualize hardware tests
Collaboration cross functionally to integrate team capability to align with Product Release Teams, RESS/ Electrical Development Teams, System Engineering, Development, Validation, and other Technical Specialists to develop optimal design solutions that meet all requirements
Support Code Red and urgent break/fix product issues
Maintain and execute analysis capability development plans
Responsible for analysis procedure documentation and updates
Provide training for new and existing analysis procedures
Responsible to align analysis procedures across various GM teams inside and outside VDDV
Support critical vehicle and propulsion system program gates with technical reviews (PPDRs, VVAs, Peer Reviews)
Requirements:
BS Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering or Mechanical Engineering
10+ yrs. of engineering experience in design, analysis and testing of electrical system or components
Fluent in Synopsys Saber simulator and MAST Product or equivalent Electrical Data Analysis tool products (Spice, PLECS, SimuLink, Simscape..etc.)
Extensive experience in CAE analysis of high voltage systems and/or battery systems with electrified vehicles (BEV, EREV, PHEV, HEV, BAS) including development of analytical models for following: HV battery, fuse, cable, busbar, connector, contactor, BDU and electrical short circuit
Extensive experience in the application of engineering principles of operation related to electric circuit analysis, electronics, electromagnetics, electric drive systems, control systems, and digital signal processing
Strong debugging and troubleshooting skills
Demonstrated technical leadership capability, including ability to: Successfully lead large and/or difficult projects to completion
Organize teams around challenging issues and projects
Communicate clearly and succinctly to leadership and customers
Nice to have:
M.S. or PhD in Electrical Engineering
Experience in plant modeling and co-simulation
Experience with development and usage of CAD tools
Knowledge of battery cell and battery pack modeling and simulation methodologies (example: Li-Ion, Lead Acid, etc.)
Experience in designing and implementing GUI (Graphical User Interface) as well as core software for technical applications with schematic interfaces
DFSS Black Belt or higher certification
Experience in applying Artificial Intelligence (AI)/Machine Learning (ML) methods
