Job Description:

Performs a variety of skilled work to maintain water wells, chemical feeder equipment, pumps, motors, telemetering sensory equipment, treated water storage facilities, water distribution pipelines and related appurtenances. Performs difficult technical and mechanical work in the operation and maintenance of water treatment and conveyance facilities. May provide direction to peers and subordinates in performance of routine day-to-day work activities.

Job Responsibility:

  • Performs a variety of skilled work to maintain water wells, chemical feeder equipment, pumps, motors, telemetering sensory equipment, treated water storage facilities, water distribution pipelines and related appurtenances
  • Performs difficult technical and mechanical work in the operation and maintenance of water treatment and conveyance facilities
  • May provide direction to peers and subordinates in performance of routine day-to-day work activities
  • Demonstrates a continuous effort to improve operations by streamlining work processes, decreasing turnaround times, and working cooperatively and jointly to provide efficiency and excellence in the use of City resources
  • Delivers outstanding customer service
  • Adheres to industry and City safety standards, policies, practices, and procedures
  • Executes routine and emergency operational, maintenance, and repair functions on equipment utilized in the water production division
  • Conducts daily inspections of water treatment facilities, production wells, booster stations, storage tanks, and related equipment
  • Reviews water production/demand lab results and assesses system condition
  • Takes water samples and makes field tests to confirm water treatment procedures and quality
  • Assumes the duties and responsibilities of the Production Division Senior Technician as assigned during his/her absence

Requirements:

  • Formal Education/Knowledge: Work requires knowledge of a specific vocational, administrative, or technical nature that may be obtained with six-months/one year of advanced study or training past the high school equivalency
  • Minimum two years' experience in a related field
  • Valid driver’s license
  • ADEQ Grade I Operator License in Water Treatment or Water Distribution and obtain a ADEQ Grade II Operator License in specific area of concentration within 12 months of hire
  • Work requires the ability to read written instructions, manuals, letters, and machine equipment readings, measurements, or gauges
  • Work requires the ability to perform general math calculations such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and formulas
  • Work requires the ability to write letters, memos, and reports
  • Work requires the occasional direction of helpers, assistants, seasonal employees, interns, or temporary employees

Nice to have:

  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in the maintenance & operation of a water treatment or distribution system to include, the repair and operation of wells, boosters pumps, reservoirs, valves, altitude valves and instrumentation
  • Knowledge of basic RO and arsenic treatment facility operation
  • An ADEQ Water Treatment or Water Distribution Grade II certificate
  • A CDL Class A Driver’s License

  • Aids in the development and preservation of the overall production schedule for project deliverables
  • Provides technical and administrative support for engineering services
  • Supports the development of specifications for installation and data documentation used in the Site Survey process
  • Assists in surveys of existing power systems and associated equipment as well as the physical facility for adequacy of exiting equipment and to ensure new power system requirements are accommodated at all facilities
