The Utility Mechanic performs in a technical role focusing on manufacturing in Operations by maintaining the operational status of production equipment, performing GMP preventive maintenance on production equipment, and supporting production-related projects. The Utility Mechanic follows SOPs and uses safety and GMP-compliant practices in their work. Detailed documentation skills and customer-based interpersonal communication skills are used to maintain quality and efficient production support. The Utility Mechanic uses experience to efficiently troubleshoot and repair Operations equipment through hands-on work and uses technical skills to repair and fabricate parts using Machine Shop equipment. Must be able to schedule PM service with minimal downtime to production. Provide training and guidance to new employees as needed.
Job Responsibility:
Support manufacturing by troubleshooting industrial manufacturing machinery and providing resolution for process equipment malfunctions
Perform GMP preventive maintenance on production equipment
Provide support for production related projects
Continuously maintain production machinery with the objective to improve system performance and efficiency
Perform equipment repairs for production areas and assist with the installation, verification and startup of new machinery and processes
Repair and fabricate manufacturing equipment parts on the production floor or in the machine/weld shop
Comply with all workplace standards and safety procedures
Must be able to rotate to any shift based upon production support needs and training opportunities
Must be able to work overtime based on production schedule and as requested
Requirements:
A minimum of (2) years accredited/certified training (i.e. vo-tech) in mechanical technologies (machining, welding, and shop fabrication)
A minimum of (2) years industrial hands-on experience maintaining production machinery and working in a machine shop in a manufacturing environment
Maintenance experience supporting industrial PLC-controlled manufacturing machinery and other equipment such as pumps, tanks, and piping systems
Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills to accurately diagnose and repair multiple types of manufacturing equipment
Must have machining and welding experience fabricating and repairing parts using a metal lathe, vertical end mill, and MIG/TIG welder
Experience using hand and power tools for equipment repairs
Hands-on experience repairing and fabricating parts in a machine shop for completion of repairs on manufacturing equipment
Must have excellent organization and interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively in both individual and team environments
Good written and verbal communication skills in English required
