General Excavating is searching for a Superintendent who is expected to manage construction projects that generate profits for the company. This role is ultimately responsible for the day-to-day management of projects and on-site craft personnel and subcontractors. Directs, schedules, supervises, and coordinates activities of personnel to obtain optimum use of equipment and facilities. Provides overall management of construction project sites and procurement through final acceptance, while ensuring project safety. Maximizes profits and cost controls to maintain stability and growth of the organization by performing the following duties personally and through subordinates.
Job Responsibility:
Manage construction projects that generate profits for the company
Manage the day-to-day management of projects and on-site craft personnel and subcontractors
Direct, schedule, supervise, and coordinate activities of personnel to obtain optimum use of equipment and facilities
Provide overall management of construction project sites and procurement through final acceptance
Ensure project safety
Maximize profits and cost controls
Study specifications and plans to coordinate procedures for appropriate construction methods based on project start and completion
Study staffing and equipment needs for each phase of construction
Direct and supervise construction activities and related staffing/equipment needs
Direct on-site personnel engaged in planning the work procedures, executing work procedures, interpreting specifications, plans, and coordinating various phases of construction to prevent delays
Confer with supervisory personnel, owners, engineers, inspectors, contractors, subcontractors, and material suppliers to resolve matters such as work procedures, complaints or construction problems
Inspect and review work in progress to ensure that workmanship conforms to specifications, plans, schedules, and safety compliance
Prepare or review reports on progress and costs related to materials, equipment and labor used and adjust work schedules as indicated by reports
Control any disputes with the public and customers, including damage to personal property or repair to public facilities
Confer and cooperate with other onsite personnel in following administrative, operational policies and procedures
Investigate and report damage, accidents, or delays at construction sites to ensure that proper construction procedures are being followed
Monitor compliance with project safety program requirements
Document and ensure corrective measures are implemented as necessary
Enforce compliance with administrative policies, procedures, safety rules and governmental regulations
Prepare recommendations for management performance evaluation
Requirements:
Four (4) years minimum related experience
or equivalent combination of education and experience
Valid Driver’s License with clean driving record
Ability to pass a 10 panel pre-employment drug/alcohol test and physical exam
Clean background check
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos
Ability to write simple correspondence
Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations
Ability to add, subtract multiply and divide
Ability to perform operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume and distance
Ability to read a tape measure and convert inches into tenths
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions
Ability to deal with problems involving multiple variables in standardized situations
Physical ability to use hands and fingers to handle or feel, and reach with arms while operating equipment
Physical ability to climb or balance
stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and talk or hear
Physical ability to frequently lift and/or move up to fifty (50) pounds without assistance
Specific vision abilities required: close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus
