Job Description:

We are seeking highly skilled and detail-oriented Utilities Lawyers to support our clients, many of which are leading energy service companies across the U.S. This is a remote opportunity for attorneys with strong regulatory and transactional experience in the California utilities sector, particularly those with experience before the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC).

Job Responsibility:

  • Advise on regulatory compliance and filings before the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) and other state and federal regulatory bodies
  • Draft, review, and negotiate a wide range of California-specific utility agreements
  • Provide legal support for CPUC rate case filings, tariff implementation, and procurement compliance
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders and external counsel on infrastructure, construction, and maintenance contracts related to California utility assets
  • Support IT and digital transformation initiatives, including smart grid and metering technologies
  • Advise on legal matters involving California-based IOUs, public power entities, transmission operators, load aggregators, and large commercial/industrial utility customers

Requirements:

  • 5–15 years of legal experience, with a focus on California utilities, energy regulation, or infrastructure
  • Demonstrated experience with CPUC proceedings and filings
  • Strong understanding of California-specific regulatory frameworks and utility contracting
  • Licensed to practice law in at least one U.S. jurisdiction

Nice to have:

  • Experience working in-house at a California electric utility, power distribution company, or energy service company (ESCO)
  • Familiarity with California energy procurement, rate cases, and compliance obligations
  • Background in infrastructure, construction, or IT contracting within the California utilities sector
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to advise cross-functional teams
