Job Description:

The Tax Preparer will manage the tax process from document collection through draft completion, coordinate directly with clients, and ensure returns are complete and ready for review.

Job Responsibility:

  • Prepare federal and state tax returns for Individuals (Form 1040), C-Corporations (Form 1120), S-Corporations (Form 1120S), Partnerships (Form 1065)
  • Work with a variety of operating businesses across different industries
  • Handle entities that may include real estate holdings and depreciation schedules, but are not predominantly real estate-focused
  • Manage the tax return process from initial document request through draft completion
  • Request, collect, and organize client documentation needed to fully prepare returns
  • Communicate directly with clients to clarify open items and resolve issues
  • Set up and coordinate client calls as needed
  • Ensure returns are complete, organized, and ready for Tax Senior review
  • Track open items and follow up proactively with clients
  • Assist with extensions, projections, and year-round tax matters as needed
  • Support the team throughout the year, not just during tax season

Requirements:

  • 3+ years of experience in a U.S. public accounting firm
  • Strong experience preparing both individual and business tax returns
  • Experience with Forms 1040, 1120, 1120S, and 1065
  • Solid understanding of federal and multi-state tax compliance
  • Experience with depreciation and business-related tax issues
  • Ability to manage multiple engagements and meet deadlines
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Comfortable communicating directly with clients
  • Self-motivated and capable of working independently in a remote setting
  • Familiarity with U.S. tax preparation software and document management systems
