My client is seeking an Urban Planning Consultant to join their team, focusing on development applications and planning functions. This role involves collaborating with the Senior Urban Planning Consultant and the consulting team, offering opportunities for professional growth,mentorship, and skill diversification for those ready for a new challenge. The Urban Planning Consultant will provide expert advice to clients and the team, helping navigate the complexities of ongoing projects. Effective communication with clients, allied professionals, and stakeholders is crucial for managing proposals efficiently and securing successful approvals. Strong time management skills are essential, as the role involves handling multiple projects concurrently. Flexibility and critical thinking are required to resolve complex issues and achieve favourable outcomes for clients.

Job Responsibility:

  • Conduct feasibility and preliminary reviews of development sites in line with the Planning, Development, and Infrastructure Act 206, Planning and Design Code, and other relevant legislation
  • Manage various development proposals for clients, coordinating with Council and other professionals as needed
  • Analyse and enhance the consultant team's functions and processes to better serve clients
  • Attend meetings with clients, stakeholders, and professionals at Council, on-site, and at office
  • Prepare and facilitate lodgement documentation, including planning statements and technical information
  • Handle phone, email, and in-person inquiries, providing technical planning advice to new and existing clients
  • Assist with broader project management of land division and urban development proposals post-consent and approval

Requirements:

  • Tertiary qualification in Urban and Regional Planning or a related field, or equivalent experience
  • Proven experience with the Planning, Development and Infrastructure Act 2016, Planning and Design Code, and other relevant legislation
  • Experience in assessing and managing planning and development applications, including use of the Plan SA Development Application Portal (DAP)
  • Current South Australian Driver's License
  • Strong knowledge of legislative and statutory processes related to planning and land division applications
  • Prior experience in an urban planning role within a government or non-government setting
  • High proficiency in using computerised systems, web technologies, software applications, word-processing, and spreadsheets
