Unit Manager – Mt Prospect Station, Te Anau. Help lead the day-to-day management of Mt Prospect Station, ensuring productive, sustainable, and safe farm operations. Support the Manager to oversee staff, livestock, and infrastructure while maintaining the property’s high standards of animal welfare and environmental stewardship.
Job Responsibility:
Livestock Management: Achieve weight gain and fertility targets, maintain accurate stock records, and ensure safe transport in line with client and NZ standards
Pasture, Fertiliser & Cropping: Plan and manage grazing, pasture growth, fertiliser and nitrogen programs, and cropping to maximise feed utilisation and yield
Animal Health & Welfare: Monitor stock health, implement vaccination and drenching programs, minimise death rates, and maintain records
Financial & Administration: Support farm operations to work within agreed budgets, contribute to monthly reporting on performance and budget variances, and maintain accurate administration
Asset & Environmental Management: Maintain all vehicles, machinery, water systems, fences, and yards
implement weed control
ensure compliance with environmental regulations, effluent, and fertilizer programs
Health & Safety Leadership: Champion health and safety across the farm, ensuring all staff and contractors work safely, policies and procedures are followed
Requirements:
Hands-on, practical experience in pasture management, animal health & husbandry, and stock management
Strong leadership and team management skills
Committed to animal welfare, safety, and operational excellence
Organised, proactive, and capable of making operational decisions on-farm
