The Unit Coordinator/Secretary through communication, requisitioning and management of supplies and equipment, coordinates the activities of the nursing staff, the patient, the physician, other Hospital departments and visitors. He/she performs general receptionist and clerical duties in order to facilitate efficient functioning of the nursing unit.
Job Responsibility:
Coordinates activities of nursing staff, patients, physicians, other Hospital departments and visitors through communication and management of supplies/equipment

Scans orders to Pharmacy and alerts nurse to STAT orders
Reviews and follows up on CPOE orders
Keeps bed track and PCS systems up to date
Books appointments through central scheduling
Ensures discharge disposition is entered accurately
Faxes discharge paperwork and medication reconciliation
Prints, reviews and inquires about unit reports
Files reports in patient charts
Completes daily chart audits
Completes shift to shift report
Completes shift rounds
Orders supplies from Stores/other departments
Collaborates with Operations Supervisor to maintain par levels
Understands roles in hospital codes/emergency preparedness
Ensures unit environment meets regulatory requirements
Complies with CDC hand hygiene guidelines
Functions as a preceptor for new employees
Demonstrates dependability/flexibility
Utilizes critical thinking and problem solving
Communicates appropriately utilizing chain of command
Accountable for being informed about hospital policy changes
Works within legal, regulatory and ethical standards

Requirements:
High School Diploma/GED preferred
Knowledge of basic medical terminology preferred
