As our Unit Coordinator, you will be a vital caregiver and the central hub, assuming responsibility for patient care processes from newborn to geriatric for a designated time frame. You will directly contribute to safe, therapeutic patient care while serving as the primary receptionist and secretary. Every day you will support safe patient care through multidisciplinary processes and coordinating unit activities. You will efficiently manage information flow and assist healthcare team members in delivering care across all patient age groups.
Job Responsibility:
Coordinate patient scheduling/flow with ancillary departments and consulting physicians
Utilize Care Compass to view and follow up on unit orders/tasks for completion
Complete daily unit logs for non-nursing tasks
Verify completion of logs that must be done by nursing
Assure that no supplies or solutions are expired throughout the unit
Monitor the unit for cleanliness
Collect and submit monthly audits as assigned
Maintain current materials on bulletin boards
Assure that unit devices are charged and clean
Track unit equipment to prevent loss
Verify that Care Value patient assignments are made prior to start of shift and maintained throughout the shift
Inspect each room after each patient discharge and prior to new patient admission to assure all equipment is present and in working order
Take minutes, type, and maintain file for Unit Staff meetings and Unit Council meetings
Act as receptionist for the unit, providing excellent customer service
Answer the telephone promptly and courteously
Respond to call lights appropriately and relay messages to appropriate nursing personnel
Relay all communication accurately and timely to the proper recipients
Assist visitors as appropriate
Demonstrate communication appropriate to various age groups and stakeholders
Serve as resource for Electronic Health Record use
Maintain confidentiality of all patient information
Perform admission, transfer and discharge functions to facilitate patient flow
Submit accurate patient charges, as required
Enter written or faxed physician orders, except medications, into the electronic system with accuracy
Scan written Physician medication orders to Pharmacy
Assemble and maintain patient’s Medical Record with appropriate chart forms
Prepare consent forms accurately
Maintain accuracy and completeness of information in patient record
Monitor chart location in accordance with policy
Request and retrieve old charts from Medical Records as per physician orders
Order departmental supplies for daily operation of the unit
Request specialty beds and equipment as indicated on physician orders
Complete and forward maintenance requests
Assure that equipment is returned to central processing in a timely manner and that equipment on the unit is clean
Arrange for repair of broken equipment and track the equipment
Attend inservices and or workshops for continuing education requirements according to hospital policy
Participate in Unit meetings, Unit Coordinator meetings, and Continuous Quality Improvement activities
Document professional competency through LEARN and annual competency process
