CHS has an exciting opportunity at our Oil Refinery facility in McPherson, KS. We are looking for a Union Refinery Pipe Welder to perform welding tasks with a high level of quality and accuracy to support the safe and efficient maintenance of all processes and equipment under the control of the Refinery Maintenance Department. You must be a detail-oriented, results-driven individual with strong mechanical aptitude and a commitment to safety, quality, and precision. Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, a strong commitment to operational excellence, and the ability to work in both a team environment and on self-directed tasks are required.
Job Responsibility:
Select equipment and plan layout, assembly, and welding in accordance with work plans, engineered drawings, Isometrics or as directed
Fabricate or Repair products by dismantling, straightening, reshaping, and reassemble
Mark, cut, shape, and fit up material to prescribed measurements
Lay out, position, align, and fit components together including but not limited to pipe, pipe fittings, and structural steel
Perform welding operations to meet welding procedure specifications (WPS) in an efficient manner
Ensure that welds can pass NDE test requirements in accordance with ASME Codes
Maintain a clean shop and work area
Climb ladders and stairways to perform duties to heights of up to 200 feet
Perform work in confined areas / spaces and/or out of position
Perform work in all weather conditions and various environments in shop and/or field
Perform work while wearing respirator
Lift and/or carry portable fire extinguishers weighing up to 50 pounds
Perform other duties needed or assigned
Maintain and promote a strong safety culture and follow all safety policies, procedures and regulations
Requirements:
Minimum skill level of Silver on the Kansas WORKReady! Certificate or ACT National Career Readiness Certificate
High School Diploma or GED
2+ years of piping related welding experience
Successful completion of in-house written weld test
Successful completion of the following weld tests utilizing GTAW and SMAW procedures: Carbon Steel GTAW Schedule 160, SMAW Schedule 160
Relevant Degree or Certificate: Associates degree in Applied science or Metallurgy, with an emphasis on Welding, or Equivalent coursework in the field of Metallurgy or Welding, or Welding Certificate from an accredited institution
Computer experience with Windows based programs
Ability to follow written procedures and verbal instructions
