Job Description

The Underwriting Specialist serves as the primary coordinator between our company and our underwriting partner, Corpay. This role ensures that every new account submitted for underwriting moves efficiently through the approval process, with accuracy, compliance, and excellent communication across all parties. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, highly organized, and thrives in a fast-paced financial environment where precision and partnership are key. The Underwriting Specialist will work closely with internal sales, account management, and operations teams to facilitate smooth onboarding for new corporate card and expense management clients, resolve underwriting issues, and maintain strong relationships with Corpay's underwriting and risk teams.

Job Responsibility

  • Serve as the central point of contact between the company and Corpay for all underwriting-related activities
  • Coordinate the collection, review, and submission of client documentation required for underwriting approval
  • Review applications for completeness, accuracy, and compliance with underwriting requirements before submission
  • Track and manage the status of all active underwriting files, ensuring timely movement through each stage of review
  • Communicate clearly with sales and account management teams on underwriting progress, missing information, or decisions
  • Liaise with Corpay's underwriting and credit teams to clarify requirements, resolve questions, and expedite approvals
  • Maintain organized and compliant records of all underwriting communications, decisions, and documentation
  • Identify and escalate potential risk or compliance issues to the appropriate internal or external stakeholders
  • Collaborate with internal teams to improve underwriting workflows, response times, and data accuracy
  • Assist in the development and continuous refinement of underwriting procedures and checklists
  • Support the onboarding and activation of new accounts following underwriting approval, ensuring a seamless handoff to implementation or account management teams
  • Provide regular reporting and metrics on underwriting volume, approval timelines, and outstanding files
  • Stay informed about Corpay's underwriting criteria, policy changes, and risk standards to ensure ongoing alignment
  • Represent the company professionally in all communications with Corpay and clients, demonstrating integrity, accuracy, and responsiveness

Requirements

  • Prior experience in underwriting coordination, financial operations, credit processing, or related financial services
  • Strong understanding of business credit, financial statements, and underwriting principles preferred
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to translate complex information into clear, actionable updates
  • Exceptional organizational and time management abilities

  • Proven attention to detail, accuracy, and compliance
  • High level of professionalism, discretion, and reliability
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook) and CRM or workflow tools

  • Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams, including sales, compliance, and external underwriting partners
  • Experience in fintech, banking, payments, or expense management software is a plus

  • Communicating confidently and effectively with merchants AND sales representatives as needed to obtain updated financial information or any other documentation needed
  • Maintaining and monitoring the portfolio of merchants through monthly reports and evaluate/manage risk to identify suspicious merchant activity and mitigate fraudulent behavior and charges
  • Working with department personnel to obtain historical data and feedback for the previous 12 months' account performance
  • Recommending and developing enhancements, sources, and resources to assist in the credit review process
