Job Description:

The Underwriter plays a critical role in supporting continued growth by evaluating financial risk and creditworthiness for new and existing customers. This position focuses on reviewing financial statements, assessing business health, and enabling timely, accurate underwriting decisions in a high-volume, fast-paced fintech environment. The role partners closely with underwriting leadership and cross-functional teams to ensure efficient deal flow while maintaining strong credit discipline.

Job Responsibility:

  • Review and analyze financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow data, to assess credit risk
  • Evaluate business financial health, trends, and risk indicators to support underwriting decisions
  • Process and underwrite a high daily volume of applications while meeting turnaround time expectations
  • Identify potential risk factors, inconsistencies, or gaps in financial documentation
  • Document underwriting decisions clearly and consistently for internal records and audit readiness
  • Partner with underwriting leadership, operations, and sales teams to support smooth deal execution
  • Contribute to process improvements that increase efficiency and scalability as application volume grows

Requirements:

  • Professional experience in accounting, finance, underwriting, or a related analytical role
  • Strong ability to read and interpret balance sheets and financial statements
  • High attention to detail and sound judgment in financial analysis
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, high-volume environment
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • United States–based and eligible to work remotely
  • Experience in fintech, payments, lending, or financial services
  • Exposure to credit, risk, or underwriting workflows
  • Experience supporting growth-stage or scaling organizations

  • Accountability for ensuring strong analysis of the assigned Real estate portfolio ensuring consistencies with industry leading practices and compliance with all internal risk policies, standards and procedures
  • Interface with and support bankers in underwriting requests for commercial credit extensions for new and existing clients with ownership responsibilities for sound credit decisions and compliance with internal procedures/credit risk policy guidelines and standards
  • Adoption of leading practices in credit analysis, underwriting, and monitoring, including the end-to-end underwriting process, from early origination discussions to development of credit approval memos, and senior approval forums
  • Supervise analysts and associates to perform periodic monitoring of the portfolio
  • Ensure maintenance of organized credit files for credit, regulatory, and compliance purposes and ensuring compliance with WCR policies and processes
  • Perform quality control of the approval memos to ensure accuracy and completeness of input
  • Ensures team monitors the ongoing compliance of assigned deals with the documented financing terms and conditions, portfolio performance and financial triggers and makes appropriate recommendations with the aim of identifying and mitigating credit risks
  • Ensure ongoing and timely feedback and coaching of junior team to sustain a strong credit culture and an unwavering commitment to excellence in analysis and execution
