Our client, a leading Canadian financial institution, we are seeking a detail-oriented and decisive Bilingual Credit/Underwriting Analyst. This is a dynamic opportunity for a residential mortgage professional to leverage their analytical skills and decisioning authority within a high-volume, professional environment. For this credit underwriting role, the must haves are underwriting mortgages in real estate for secured/unsecured lending. This is a hybrid long term engagement with opportunity to be converted to full-time.
Job Responsibility:
Independently negotiate, approve, decline, and recommend residential mortgage and real estate secured/unsecured applications within an authorized lending limit of up to $1.5M
Gather and assess all necessary documentation (income, down-payment, offers, etc.) to ensure applications align with risk parameters and insurer guidelines
Identify potential risks and provide well-reasoned recommendations to management for applications exceeding personal authority limits or requiring specialized exceptions
Act as a key point of contact for internal partners and external stakeholders, including insurers, appraisers, and solicitors, to resolve inquiries and finalize files
Maintain high quality and due diligence standards while managing significant work volumes and strict timelines
Requirements:
Professional fluency in both French and English is mandatory
3–4 years of retail mortgage underwriting experience, specifically focused on Residential Mortgages
Proven experience in RESL (Real Estate Secured Lending) and a strong understanding of risk mitigation strategies
Demonstrated experience with approval authority and the ability to formulate exception rationales independently
Exceptional negotiation skills, high attention to detail, and the ability to communicate complex information clearly
Proficient in MS Office (Outlook/Excel) and the ability to adapt quickly to new underwriting technologies
Nice to have:
A university degree or completion of recognized mortgage broker/underwriting courses is considered a strong asset
