Job Description

Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance (BHSI) has an exciting opportunity for an Underwriter or Senior Underwriter based in our German office in Cologne, Munich, Frankfurt or Hamburg to join the Executive & Professional lines team, with a focus on insurance solutions for Commercial and Financial Institutions. Day-to-day responsibilities of this role include, developing business within Germany across all relevant distribution channels, prequalifying accounts, utilizing underwriting acumen to select risks within company’s risk appetite and expanding and developing new business opportunities through production & marketing calls with brokers and customers.

Job Responsibility

  • Grow and develop a profitable book of COM/FI business
  • Establish, develop, and expand broker and customer relationships
  • Underwrite assigned accounts while ensuring appropriate analysis and documentation
  • Work in a fast-paced, bottom line-oriented environment, multi-task, and make quick decisions while maintaining underwriting integrity
  • Maintain awareness of the competitive environment and risk profile of their assigned region
  • Effectively communicate BHSI value proposition and demonstrate leadership in the region

Requirements

  • 3+ years of financial lines underwriting experience
  • Existing broker and customer relationships, or the ability to develop strong broker and customer relationships quickly
  • Strong underwriting acumen, including understanding of the legal environment to directors’ and officers’ liability and financial analysis skills with an ability to assess the profitability, solvency and liquidity of any organization
  • Experience and solid understanding of policy forms, including broker manuscripts
  • it’s coverage intent, structure and application
  • Ability to work independently within a Team Environment
  • Strong collaboration and team building skills
  • Strong communication skills including negotiation, communications and presentation experience
  • Degree or equivalent education, and/or strong insurance qualifications
  • Fluency in German and English
  • Some travel will be required
