Peabody is seeking an experienced UG Gas & Ventilation Engineer to support our underground operations across Australia and the United States. This role provides critical technical expertise in coal seam gas (CSG) reservoir modelling, underground ventilation planning, gas drainage, and methane management to ensure safe and productive operations. This role has a strong emphasis on underground coal ventilation engineering. The talent pool with UG coal ventilation experience is very small, and this capability is essential. Gas drainage modelling is also a key component of the position. Candidates from academia with strong modelling capability will also be considered. Reporting to the Director, Underground Mining Engineering, you will partner closely with site teams, Technical Services, mine planning, geology, HSE, and project engineering to support safe mine design, regulatory compliance and Life of Mine planning.
Job Responsibility:
Develop, maintain and update CSG reservoir models assessing gas quality, quantity, and drainage potential
Conduct simulations to determine SIS/UIS designs, gas drainage needs, equipment requirements and supporting infrastructure
Support planning and execution of drilling programs, including gas capture, disposal, and destruction methods
Contribute to waste gas utilisation studies for beneficial or commercial use
Work with mine sites and CSG third‑party providers to assist with gas drainage projects
Develop and maintain underground ventilation models using recognised software (e.g., Ventsim)
Assess ventilation requirements to support mine design, production schedules and methane management strategies
Integrate ventilation modelling with mine planning datasets and operational information
Provide gas and ventilation input into studies and projects from Concept through to Execution
Liaise with site teams to gather data, validate assumptions, and support operational troubleshooting
Prepare CSG Statements and supporting documentation for ML/PL applications
Support environmental approvals, project documentation and LOM plans
Present technical concepts clearly to both technical and non‑technical audiences

Strong communication and technical writing skills
Minimum 5 years’ underground mining engineering experience, with emphasis on gas reservoir modelling and ventilation planning
Demonstrated experience in CSG exploration, evaluation, planning and production
Proven capability in developing ventilation models to support mine planning, gas drainage and methane management
