Amgen British Columbia, located in Burnaby, is a research center of excellence focused primarily on the use of cutting-edge platform technology for the discovery of therapeutic antibodies. We are seeking talented, highly motivated students to join our core groups to learn and utilize skills in the field of biochemistry, molecular biology, cell biology, and immunology. You will join one of the functional teams at Amgen British Columbia, partnering closely with a supervisor and contribute to projects that could potentially have a direct impact on human health.
Job Responsibility:
Learn and apply basic and modern lab techniques (e.g. tissue culture, molecular cloning, flow cytometry, bioassays, imaging, automation, mass spec, NGS)
Participate in the development of novel experiments and methods
Utilize advanced fit-for-purpose laboratory instruments and systems
Application of the knowledge from researching literature to experiments
Experimental design, execution, and data analysis/documentation
Join one of the functional teams at Amgen British Columbia: Antibody Discovery and Screening: antibody discovery by in vivo and in vitro platforms and high throughput screening technologies
Experimental Immunology: this role investigates human immune responses and cellular phenotypes through in vitro experimentation, with an emphasis on spectral cytometry and quantitative data analysis
Requirements:
18 years or older
Currently enrolled in a full time Bachelor’s Degree program from an accredited college or university with a 3.0 minimum GPA or equivalent
Completion of one year of study from an accredited college or university prior to the internship commencing
Enrolled in a full time Bachelor’s degree program following the potential internship or co-op assignment with an accredited college or university
Must not be employed at the time the internship starts
Degree concentration(s) in Biology, Immunology, Biochemistry, Biomedical Engineering, or related discipline
Able to work for two consecutive four months terms
General knowledge of cell biology, immunology, biochemistry & molecular biology
Previous lab experience, completion of previous co-op term(s), or internship experience
Experience with PCR, cloning, mammalian cell culture, transfection, and flow cytometry
High attention to detail and ability to comply with written procedures
Strong written and oral communications skills
Ability to function effectively as part of a team
Excellent organizational, record keeping and time management skills
