Job Responsibility

Performs basic diagnostic x-rays supervised by a radiology technologist
Identifies and assists patients with questions about procedures
Prepares patients for exam and ensures patient safety in the absence of the radiology technologist
Obtains medications, radiopharmaeceuticals, or contrast media materials as directed for administration by a licensed practitioner, authorized/certified technologist or registered nurse
Assists physicians and technologists in the performance of diagnostic exams based on assigned modality and career pursuits (Rad/Fluro, CT, IR, Mammography, MRI, Nuclear Medicine, PET, Ultrasound) to include procedures requiring the administration of contrast media
Retrieves patient orders and requisitions while supporting administrative or miscellaneous work tasks in the RIS, EMR, or other standard applications required in the workflow for diagnostic exams
Assists patients to restrooms, with bedpans, urinals and other ancillary clinical support needs as required
Assists with administrative duties, quality assurance, safety, regulatory, and compliance requirements

Reviews consultation request, checking for special instructions from requesting physician and consults with the Radiologist as necessary
Completes all departmental processes for resulting and documentation of exams
Pleasantly greets patients, confirming their identification and introducing yourself
Completely explains examination procedure to the patient and their family if present
Demonstrates a complete working knowledge of all equipment located within the Ultrasound department
Performs all routine diagnostic and ultrasound procedures according to established protocols
Assists the Radiologist with US guided biopsies/drainages
Verifies that patient has consented to the procedure and fully understands risks, benefits, alternatives and follow-up
Assures exam pre-requisites are completed prior to appointment
Evaluates lab values, as required, prior to beginning interventional procedures

Job Responsibility

Positioning of patients and proper selection of technical factors and equipment to obtain scans of optimal quality, making use of any necessary immobilization techniques
Ability to position, transfer and immobilize patients for procedures to ensure optimal quality exams are obtained
Ability to operate portable ultrasound equipment when required to perform portable procedures as requested throughout the hospital
Ability to assist physicians with various recommendations for obtaining optimal studies by suggesting selections for technical factors for procedures
Responsible for securing pertinent history from the patient for each procedure, in order to provide the radiologist with adequate information before film interpretation
Obtains patient history to ensure that the radiologist will have pertinent information explaining why the diagnostic test is being performed
Works closely with the radiologist when requested to ensure an optimal outcome for each procedure performed
Maintains positive guest relations when dealing with patients, fellow employees or any personnel encountered during daily activities
Compliance with established Accrediting Organization and hospital safety standards to ensure patient and staff well being at all times
Maintains annual CPR certification to further ensure safety of patients in department
