Job Description:

The Ultrasound Intern assists the Ultrasound Technologist in performing standard ultrasound procedures on designated parts of the body. They perform these duties as indicated by physician orders.

Job Responsibility:

  • Perform diagnostic ultrasound procedures with direct supervision
  • Corroborate order and patient’s clinical history
  • Select and operate ultrasound equipment for best images
  • Evaluate images for technical quality and patient identification
  • Keep rooms clean and organized, and ensure equipment is clean, stocked, and disinfected
  • Complete assigned tasks and support shared departmental goals
  • Facilitate the maintenance of own clinical competencies, and keeps current with all assigned learning compass modules

Requirements:

  • Currently enrolled in an ultrasound program
  • Basic Life Support Program (BLS) - American Heart Association

  • When ordered, prepares and administers ultrasound enhancing agents (UEA) and/or medications within scope of practice. Monitors patient condition continually and reports changes in status as thorough comprehensive preliminary report of study data to Physician staff.
  • Reviews patient history and physician's orders. Educates patient regarding procedures, equipment and exam to ensure patient's understanding and cooperation.
  • Prepares equipment and supplies. Selects appropriate exposure factors and imaging parameters. Implements safety standards and performs appropriate quality control procedures on equipment. Troubleshoots, resolves, and/or reports equipment malfunctions as necessary.
  • May have to travel to satellite locations to perform diagnostic procedures.
