Job Responsibility

Handles and processes radiology and ultrasound orders utilizing the computer system in an efficient manner
Is able to manage workload demands by organizing and prioritizing
Has the ability to maintain mature and professional behavior under the stress of heavy workload and acute patient care situations
Has the ability to maintain concentration with frequent interruptions
Transports patients ranging in age from newborn to geriatric for ultrasound procedures
Correctly initiates and performs all ultrasound procedures required at South Central Kansas Medical Center under the supervision of the radiologist and/or ordering physician
Always utilizes safe work practices while imaging patients
Is able to recognize, identify and perform procedural or technical problems in radiology areas. Knows when to contact technical service or the Clinical Engineer
May act as the lead tech for an assigned area, which includes monitoring Quality Control, equipment operation and maintenance of the individual imaging modalities
Helps in the responsibility of keeping procedure manuals up to date

Job Responsibility

Prepares patient/operates ultrasound equipment and employs techniques/procedures to ensure results are consistent and capture the correct detail of a requested area, per physicians’ direction and in adherence to department protocols
Questions patients and/or reviews patient charts for facts of patient history which are pertinent to interpretation of ultrasound examinations by the interpreting physician
obtains a brief medical history through interview and review of the patient’s chart
explains testing procedures, allays concerns and elicits patient cooperation
Ensures examination equipment is maintained and functioning appropriately before the onset of an examination
calibrates, cleans and performs routine maintenance on equipment to ensure proper functioning
recognizes and reports the malfunctioning of equipment in accordance with established procedures

Recognizes & is able to demonstrate to physicians normal structures & pathology of venous & arterial systems of the abdomen
Accurately demonstrates pseudoaneurysms of the groin, locates the area, correctly measures & documents with doppler according to criteria & protocol
Assesses & accurately demonstrates for the interpreting physician hemodynamics of native arteries, surgical arterial grafts, & arterial/venous fistulas for dialysis purposes
Physically maps out the vein saphenous or superficial system by drawing on patients leg including all tributaries & vein diameters for the purpose of surgical harvesting
