Job Description

The Corporate Affairs Manager at Amgen supports the development and execution of corporate affairs strategies. This role is focused on managing the company's reputation and its relations with key stakeholders, including employees, media, government, and the public. This person often serves as the primary point of contact for external inquiries related to corporate affairs.

Job Responsibility

  • Working closely with the Corporate Affairs lead and agency partners to identify external opportunities to bring to life the broader Amgen UK narrative, enhancing and protecting Amgen's reputation as a life sciences leader in the wider UK healthcare ecosystem
  • Leading the development of business relevant content and key messages for Amgen's priority topics, with a view to translating them into a multichannel communications plan to support internal and external communications with key stakeholders
  • Partnering cross-functionally with both commercial, corporate and R&D functions to identify key Amgen UK news, case studies, best practice and opportunities for amplification that support our wider narrative and will generate media and digital interest to drive an increase in UK share of voice
  • Working proactively with the local R&D and medical, to strategically lead communications opportunities to amplify major Amgen medical and R&D news. This work also involves liaising with global teams
  • Advising and supporting brand/policy teams with key PR and communications activities for example around key data and regulatory milestones or flagship initiatives or projects carried out in partnership with patient associations
  • Development of a digital platform strategy focused on maximising and increasing enterprise-wide usage and engagement with all platforms internally and externally, whilst ensuring correct processes are in place and adhered to, to ensure content is compliant with all medical, legal, and regulatory requirements
  • Management of overall internal communications across the UK and Ireland, including the proactive management of an internal editorial calendar balancing communications needs across different functions whilst managing the information flow across the site
  • Overseeing strategic development and delivery of the staff CONNECT engagement program across UK and Ireland sites, working closely with the Corporate Affairs Associate, quadrant leaders and relevant cross functional teams to support tactical implementation and programme delivery
  • Liaison and management of external agencies and vendors as appropriate
  • Stay abreast of corporate affairs trends, standard processes, and emerging platforms, and propose new and innovative ways to use the work across Operations in support of Amgen's brand and reputation

Requirements

  • Minimum of 8-10 years of relevant experience in healthcare public relations and corporate communications in either an agency or in-house setting
  • Thorough understanding of the current UK pharmaceutical and/or biotechnology communications environment as well as the UK ABPI code
  • Good knowledge of the UK media landscape - relationships with key healthcare journalists across trade, medical and consumer media would be an asset
  • Expertise in developing strategic communications campaigns and multichannel content strategies which maximise use of digital platforms including social media channels
  • Creative and strategic problem solver, with the ability to translate technical information into engaging and accessible content for multiple stakeholders
  • Ability to work in a matrix environment and in a cross-functional role, with clear leadership capability and excellent interpersonal skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with a flair for storytelling and a keen eye for detail
  • Solid digital skills and use of the Microsoft Office suite of software including Outlook, PPT, Teams and SharePoint, as well as familiarity with generative AI tools such as CoPilot and ChatGPT
  • Design capabilities using the Adobe creative suite as well as good video editing capabilities using platforms such as VIMEO
  • Degree educated in communications (journalism, public relations), business or science related field
