Job Description:

Join our team and help keep our City’s parks, sports fields, and public spaces safe, clean and thriving. We are seeking an experienced Turf and Litter Maintenance Chargehand to join our dedicated and skilled team in the Parks Operations Division.

Job Responsibility:

  • Plans, supervises and participates in the work of a team of Parks Workers performing work related to turf management, sportsfield related programs and streetscape, parks and trail litter collection
  • Implements a year-round turf management program specific to sports field and turf
  • Sources and purchases all necessary turf management products, seasonal light displays and irrigation materials
  • Oversees irrigation systems including inspections, repairs, audits, and seasonal maintenance
  • Performs other duties as required

Requirements:

  • Considerable knowledge of irrigation systems and controls
  • Considerable knowledge of turf and grass maintenance
  • Knowledge related to methods and equipment used in litter collections related to Parks
  • Irrigation CIT Level 1 certification
  • Valid Class 5 B.C. Driver’s License
  • Prior turf and/or irrigation experience within a municipal setting is desirable
  • Completion of a turf management diploma, Irrigation CIT Level 2, BCWWA Cross Connection, Bucket Truck and Level B Backhoe Certifications, plus considerable related experience including supervisory experience
  • or an equivalent combination of training or experience is desirable

Nice to have:

  • Prior turf and/or irrigation experience within a municipal setting
  • Completion of a turf management diploma, Irrigation CIT Level 2, BCWWA Cross Connection, Bucket Truck and Level B Backhoe Certifications, plus considerable related experience including supervisory experience
  • or an equivalent combination of training or experience
