As a New York State certified cancer center at the James P. Wilmot Cancer Center, the Tumor Registrar is responsible for coordinating and maintaining an effective system to register and follow patients with a diagnosis of malignancy. Duties include retrieving and analyzing cancer patient registry data for future optimal cancer program planning and research within the community in accordance with the requirements of the American College of Surgeons (ACOS) Commission on Cancer and the NYS Department of Health (NYSDOH).
Job Responsibility:
Develops and maintains thorough system to identify and incorporate all mandatory cases into the cancer registry including reportable list of diagnoses
Abstracts cases with all required data as outlined by ACOS manual and NYS Facility Reporting Manual
Uses a variety of methods to research and record follow up of all cancer patients for their lifetime as required by ACOS
Ensures various quality assurance measures by maintaining follow up rates for all eligible patients
Provides ad-hoc statistical reports to administration and physicians
Attends multidisciplinary Oncology conferences, workshops, training & educational sessions to maintain Certified Tumor Registrar (CTR) credentials
Performs other duties as assigned
Requirements:
Associates degree in Health Information Technology with Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) credential preferred
2 years experience in cancer registry or related health information experience
or equivalent combination of education and experience
Successful completion and continued educational maintenance as Certified Tumor Registrar
