The TUFLOW software team within BMT comprises of about 30 people based in Australia, UK and USA, along with a network of global resellers. This diverse and high-performing team offers an exciting mix of world-leading scientific software research and development, customer training and support, and technical sales/marketing. We are on the lookout for a TUFLOW Technical Engineer to join our growing team. As a TUFLOW Technical Engineer, you will bridge the gap between our product development teams and our customers.

Job Responsibility:

  • Assist with software testing and benchmarking, including pre-release testing of new concepts and software features in flood, urban drainage, pipe network, coastal hydraulics, water quality, sediment transport, and particle tracking modelling
  • Develop an in-depth knowledge of TUFLOW Classic/HPC, TUFLOW FV and TUFLOW CATCH, associated systems and various modelling processes
  • Contribute to user support and educational activities
  • Work with our customers to ensure a positive user experience
  • Participate in our continual enhancement of TUFLOW software products and capture consulting/industry needs by regularly liaising with the software developers
  • Assist with training courses and workshops, which may require travel within Australia and internationally
  • Document new features and processes for our Manuals, Wikis and other media

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, science, or other relevant area of study with enthusiasm for hydraulic, hydrodynamic and environmental modelling
  • 3 to 8 years of experience post-graduation using TUFLOW and/or TUFLOW FV and/or TUFLOW CATCH
  • Knowledge of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) particularly QGIS, ArcMap and/or MapInfo
  • Based in Australia, preferably Brisbane or Sydney, Melbourne, Perth or Adelaide, with unrestricted working rights
  • Experience in or ability to learn various programming tools and languages, including Python
  • Team player with interpersonal and technical skills
  • Customer-facing attitude and ability to operate within a team and independently
  • Desire to help others through aiding, training, and presenting
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Highly organised with strong attention to detail

  • Act as a Project Design Manager for small to large scale projects and lead the engagement with the end client
  • Lead the design of coastal infrastructure across Australia including jetties, marinas, wharves, boat ramps, breakwaters, seawalls, revetments and other coastal protection infrastructure
  • Be part of a cross-discipline team, working with coastal engineers, mechanical/electrical engineers, oceanographers, environmental scientists, naval architects, GIS and approvals specialists
