Our client, a high‑performing trust, estate, and tax law firm based in Walnut Creek, California is seeking an Associate Attorney with 2 years of experience, with working knowledge in trust and estate litigation who is detail‑oriented, intellectually rigorous, and committed to developing mastery in trust and tax law. This role is well suited for an attorney who wants direct mentorship, substantial responsibility, and accelerated professional growth. You will work closely with the Managing Attorney on strategy while independently handling drafting, discovery, and routine court appearances for sophisticated trust, estate, and tax matters, including fiduciary litigation, estate and trust administration, tax planning, and related business issues. The position offers structured feedback and hands‑on guidance designed to develop strong judgment, technical skill, and professional confidence. This is a Contract-To-Hire role, with conversion based on performance and fit.
Job Responsibility:
Manage trust, estate, and probate litigation matters, including trust disputes, will contests, and fiduciary actions
Conduct legal research and draft pleadings, motions, and related court filings
Conduct hearings and participate in trial preparations
Draft and respond to discovery requests
Engage in law and motion practice
Represent clients in court appearances, mediations, and settlement negotiations
Advise clients throughout the lifecycle of a matter and communicate developments clearly and promptly
Collaborate with senior attorneys to develop effective legal strategies
Stay current on California trust, probate, and tax law
Participate in firm meetings and professional development activities
Requirements:
Active license to practice law in California
Proficiency in discovery, law & motion, and deposition processes
2 years of relevant experience in trusts, estates, or tax law
Strong legal research and writing skills
Excellent organization, attention to detail, and work ethic
Sound professional judgment and integrity
Commitment to learning and professional development
Nice to have:
Experience in estate planning and trust or probate administration
Experience administering trusts holding real estate or business assets
Knowledge of trust income taxation and trust administration procedures
Experience with business litigation, contract disputes, and real estate transaction litigation
