Job Description:

Robert Half is in search for a Trust Accountant for a law firm in Walnut Creek.

Job Responsibility:

  • Ensure compliance with state trust accounting guidelines and internal procedures
  • Manage trust account activity, including deposits, settlements, refunds, and fund transfers to operating accounts
  • Record all transactions in Aderant at the matter level and complete timely bank reconciliations
  • Monitor and research outstanding checks and prepare trust balance reports and other analyses as requested
  • Collaborate with Accounts Payable, Collections, General Ledger, and Cash Receipts teams to ensure accuracy and efficiency
  • Support process improvements by recommending and implementing new accounting controls
  • Prepare and file annual 1099 forms and assist with trust-related projects, including aging analysis and other initiatives assigned by leadership

Requirements:

  • Accounting degree or equivalent experience required, with strong technical proficiency across multiple accounting functions
  • Detail-oriented and accurate in processing high volumes of transactions
  • Skilled in communicating effectively with attorneys, clients, and staff across offices
  • Experienced with ERP systems and Microsoft Office Suite
  • Able to manage multiple priorities, adapt quickly to changing demands, and work independently with minimal supervision
  • Strong verbal communication and organizational skills

  • Conduct estate, gift, and generation-skipping transfer (GST) tax planning for high-net-worth clients, including wealth transfer strategies
  • Provide consulting on complex trust, estate, and individual tax matters, including year-end and multi-year projections (cash flow, estimated tax, and distribution planning)
  • Provide estate and trust administration support, ensuring compliance with federal and state tax laws by situs
  • Supervise and mentor staff accountants, reviewing work and guiding client engagements
  • Research complex estate, gift, and trust tax issues and clearly document findings and recommendations
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships with families, beneficiaries, and their advisors
