Job Description

This is a skilled position requiring the individual to manage a variety of functions related to the transportation operations within Montana Materials & Construction. The individual must have a good understanding of ready-mix concrete, construction, paving and material distributions as it relates to transportation. The Trucking Supervisor will be responsible for coordinating the efficient utilization of trucking resources and personnel and regular reports reflecting status of the transportation process.

Job Responsibility

  • Provide regular reports reflecting status of the transportation process
  • Knowledge of DOT rules and regulations and help insure compliance
  • Check that thorough Pre and Post Trips are being done
  • Good knowledge of Transportation equipment and how to best utilize
  • Recruit and hire new employees
  • Insure all new hires are going through onboarding process
  • Help supervise all transportation personnel in your assigned area
  • Work closely with employees and help train and advance employees
  • Ability to listen to employees concerns and help coach them
  • Address any problems with employees and deal with necessary discipline actions
  • Attend scheduling/preconstruction meetings and meet with Project Superintendents
  • Help ensure on time delivery of products to our job sites
  • Monitor employee safety and performance throughout day
  • Make time to get to job and plant sites to monitor productivity
  • Review any incidents and determine what failure we had
  • Do quarterly evaluations with drivers and set goals
  • Review company driver’s time and all DOT required documents
  • Attend safety meetings and continuously improve safety
  • Work closely with shops. Inspect and analyze repairs on trucks
  • Identify / Locate potential dumps sites, best haul routes
  • Responsible for driver training and oversight of transportation telematics systems

Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
  • Three or more years of related experience
  • or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Driver’s License and clean driving record
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos
  • Ability to write correspondence
  • Ability to effectively present information
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiple and divide in all units of measure
  • Ability to compute rate, ration, percent, land to draw and interpret bar graphs
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed, but uninvolved written or oral instructions
  • Ability to type and use keyboards accurately and have knowledge of Database software
  • A working knowledge of Microsoft Office is preferred
  • Physical ability to sit, talk, hear, climb, use hands, stand, walk, crawl, kneel, bend, reach, lift and/or move from 10 to 100 lbs
  • Specific vision abilities: close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision and depth perception

  • Perform minor routine and preventative maintenance such as alignment adjustments, replacement of machine parts or belts, cleaning and lubrication while supporting Total Productive Maintenance (TPM)
  • Reconcile headcount needed on a per shift basis based on schedule production demands
  • Perform scheduled quality checks, disposition product, identify any deviations that may occur and take the appropriate action to include stopping production on the machine if necessary
  • Inspect finished product to ensure quality standards are being met
  • Complete batch/code changes, tank changes, as well as sub lots as needed
  • Document required information on manufacturing logs and/or POMS system
  • Investigate, identify and correct or escalate any inefficiency in the machine's performance including mechanical wear, alignment, adjustment, and setup issues
  • Develop standard work for troubleshooting and setups/changeovers
