Job Description:

The Triton Center Specialist - Admissions Officer (TCSAO) works in a high-demand office that receives over 150,000 undergraduate applications annually and serves as the campus information center for prospective students and their families. The TCSAO manages the Triton Center information desk, interacting with diverse individuals, addressing guest inquiries, and directing them to their destinations. They also provide work direction, training, and guidance to student employees, manage the general admissions email account, chatbot, and oversee front desk upkeep and distribution of recruitment materials. They provide detailed information about UC San Diego’s educational offerings and admission requirements through on-campus or virtual presentations, workshops, some college fairs including information sessions for campus visitors on a daily basis. Additionally, the TCSAO maintains relationships with counselors and community organizations to enhance enrollment efforts. The TCSAO reviews applications, evaluates academic records, and determines admissions eligibility, assessing transcripts from domestic and foreign institutions, and validating student records for admission purposes. They also participate in admissions committees, special projects, and training initiatives to support UC San Diego's admissions operations and recruitment goals.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in related area with typically two years experience in undergraduate admissions, student advising, or student counseling and/or equivalent experience/training
  • Thorough knowledge and experience working with a diverse student population
  • Ability to interpret and communicate University policies and procedures
  • Thorough and comprehensive knowledge of academic programs, including curricula, admissions requirements, and financial aid programs
  • Advanced verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated experience and skill to routinely monitor production and quality of work being produced by student staff
  • Ability to conduct professional presentations before large and small groups
  • Ability to develop recruitment programs, and design effective materials
