Job Description:

The town of Somerset seeks applicants for the position of Treasurer/Collector. This is a full-time position thirty-five (35) hours per week.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, Finance, Accounting or related field
  • Five to seven years of related experience
  • or equivalent combination of education, training, certification, and experience
  • Massachusetts Collectors and Treasurers Certification (CMMC, CMMT) preferred at time of hire
  • Must be eligible to be bonded
  • Thorough knowledge of payroll, benefits, and personnel practices
  • Thorough knowledge of the principles and practices associated with the financial management of accounts payable and collections
  • Thorough knowledge of Massachusetts laws relating to municipal finance, and benefits administration
  • General knowledge of town operations
  • Knowledge of cash management, account reconciliation, organization, self-direction, general accounting practices and principles
  • Computer knowledge/skills-proficient use of Microsoft Office and Google Suites, Access and financial software
  • Ability to keep accurate records and reports
  • Thorough knowledge of department specific application software
  • Ability to prioritize and multi-task
  • Ability to maintain good public relations and to maintain effective collaborative working relationships with town departments, department heads, fellow employees, officials and the general public
  • Ability to respond in a courteous and professional manner
  • Ability to meet deadlines
  • Ability to work independently
  • Computer skills in word processing, spreadsheets, and databases
  • Effective customer service and communication skills to address a wide-ranging public audience
  • Contacts require courtesy, tact and diplomacy to resolve issues
  • Excellent planning, time management and organizational skills

Nice to have:

Massachusetts Collectors and Treasurers Certification (CMMC, CMMT) preferred at time of hire
