The role of a Traveling Service Technician directly supports the company’s mission to develop and deliver clean power plants that make 100% renewable energy a reality for the world. As a Traveling Service Technician, you will be working in a field-based role within the Service Resources department that performs a variety of site activities including, but not limited to, maintenances, inspections, retrofits, large component exchanges, and repairs. This position requires a person to travel as needed for extended periods within the U.S. and Canada but also could be performing work at one specific location for an extended period with little to no travel.
Job Responsibility:
Perform major corrective repairs, including complete replacement of gearboxes, on wind turbines, maintenance, inspection, retrofit, and troubleshooting as assigned throughout United States and Canada safely and efficiently following company procedures and processes
Diagnose, analyze, and resolve issues on wind turbines
Utilize specialized tooling and equipment to perform activities
Identify potential hazards and communicate to management
Follow defined instructions and schedules, executing plans as directed, and perform according to the instructions from Resource management
Establish and maintain proper business relationships with customers, subcontractors, and peers, as well as perform necessary administrative duties accurately and in a timely manner
Utilize appropriate safety gear, protective equipment, and control or dissipation of energy sources to ensure work is performed safely
Properly maintain tools and equipment used to perform repair activities
Other responsibilities as assigned
Requirements:
High School diploma or equivalent required
A 2-year degree in wind turbine technology or a similar field strongly preferred
2-5 years of field service experience preferred with operations and maintenances, troubleshooting, inspections, large component exchanges, and repairs of wind turbines
Demonstrated use and understanding of power tools
Ability to travel domestically and internationally for extended periods, sometimes on short notice and also requires working overtime, including flexible and variable work schedule as needed to meet business needs
Able to work independently and on a team in a fast-paced setting
Willingness to learn and gain on-site experience through a growth mentality, teamwork mindset, and a positive attitude
Ability to be certified and work with both medium and high voltage equipment
Maintain required training certifications such as rigger/signal person certification and crane calling certification
Ability to read, interpret and understand drawings, schematics, instructions, and schedules
Basic computer skills, familiarity with internet-based programs, MS Office, and ability to generate data and reports using a computer
Qualified candidates must be legally authorized for employment in the United States and will not require employer sponsored work authorization now or in the future for employment in the United States
Travel to project sites as required (100% travel)
Ability to travel to domestic and international locations to project sites and on business as required
Ability to meet specific OSHA and ANSI weight limits of 265 lbs. or less
Must be able to pass a pre-employment physical administered by a medical examiner to ensure the ability to safely perform job functions and meet the physical demands of the position
Must possess a full valid U.S. driver’s license
Ability to obtain a U.S. Passport
Driving is an essential function of the job. Must possess a full valid driver’s license and be insurable under our auto insurance policy. This position will be subject to periodic driver’s abstract checks to confirm continued insurability
Demonstrate a strong understanding of and commitment to safety protocols and procedures
Ensure compliance with all safety regulations and company policies
Proactively identify and mitigate potential safety hazards
Properly use applicable safety equipment, including but not limited to eye protection, hearing protectors, steel-toe boots, and hard hats. Loose-fitting clothes and jewelry are not permitted
Communicate effectively with team members and management to ensure a safe working environment
Speak and understand English fluently to effectively communicate safety and job-related information, follow safety instructions, and collaborate with English-speaking supervisors and team members
