Job Description:

This is a travel position located in California City, CA. The Registered Nurse (RN) plans and provides comprehensive nursing care in a correctional facility setting.

Job Responsibility:

  • Plan and provide comprehensive nursing care
  • Attend sick call with the physician
  • Call the Licensed Independent Providers for medication and treatment orders
  • Monitor inmate/resident inpatient hospitalizations for early releases
  • Maintain a good working relationship with facility staff, nursing staff, contract providers and outside provider agencies
  • Regularly evaluate the provision of medical services
  • Assist Health Service Administrator with the review of medical files
  • Closely monitor all potential catastrophic illnesses
  • Audit pharmacy use for adherence to formulary
  • Comply with all applicable pharmacy laws
  • Inspect the medical unit for contraband
  • Assist Health Service Administrator to prepare and maintain records and reports
  • Review, process and respond to lawsuits
  • Attend court hearings
  • Evaluate and recommend physical safety requirements
  • Facilitate NCCHC/ACA/JCAHO accreditation
  • Escort inmates/residents for medical treatment
  • Take appropriate action to prevent or diffuse potentially disruptive situations

Requirements:

  • Execute Licensed Independent Provider's orders
  • Dispense and administer medications
  • Assist Licensed Independent Provider in examinations and treatment of patients
  • Apply nursing and supervisory techniques
  • Perform technical/clinical procedures within scope of education and licensure
  • Operate pill call and document medication
  • Examine and assess new inmates/residents with illnesses or injuries
  • Perform emergency procedures
  • Supervise licensed vocational/practical nursing staff and non-licensed medical staff
  • Maintain security and confidentiality of all medical records
  • Observe and record inmate/resident behavior
  • Provide health counseling and health education
  • Read, analyze, comprehend and interpret medical and technical procedures, governmental regulations, legal and non-legal documents
  • Prepare and disseminate safety and accident reports
  • Perform searches of people and objects
  • Engage in functions in confined areas including working rotating shifts
  • Perform rescue functions at accidents, emergencies and disasters
  • Must live 70+ miles from the facility
