Job Description
We’re recruiting a Travel Assessment Officer to join our Client Transport Team. You’ll work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to assess both Social Care and SEN clients and deliver timely, appropriate transport provision, working closely with Children’s Services, Adult Social Care, schools, families and other professionals. In this role, you’ll help ensure the safety and wellbeing of children and young people with SEND and vulnerable adults by assessing complex needs on transport and applying Council transport policy and government guidance. You’ll also support Transport Officers, as required, with the assessment of children with less complex needs.
Job Responsibility
Assess both Social Care and SEN clients
Deliver timely, appropriate transport provision
Work closely with Children’s Services, Adult Social Care, schools, families and other professionals
Ensure the safety and wellbeing of children and young people with SEND and vulnerable adults by assessing complex needs on transport
Apply Council transport policy and government guidance
Support Transport Officers with the assessment of children with less complex needs
Produce robust Travel Assessments for children and young people aged 0–25 with Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) and Adult Social Care clients
Ensure clients with specialist needs and disabilities are accurately assessed so the right provision and safety measures are put in place
Undertake visits as required
Requirements
Experienced professional with knowledge of home-to-school transport services
Understanding of transport coordination and its legislative responsibilities
Skilled in working with children and adults with Special Educational Needs and disabilities (SEND)
Proven experience supporting vulnerable individuals and ensuring their safety, dignity, and wellbeing
Excellent communication and relationship-building skills with parents, carers, transport providers, and wider stakeholders
Calm and approachable manner
Confident in delivering clear, accurate information to the public in a customer‑facing setting
Highly organised and detail‑focused
Strong track record of managing busy workloads and meeting tight deadlines
Competent with digital systems including Excel, Word, and online platforms
Full driving licence and access to a vehicle
