Job Description

Trauma-Informed Teaching Assistants (SEMH Specialism) Locations: Newton Abbot & Ashburton, Devon. Hours: 08:30 - 15:30, Monday to Friday, Long-term. Pay: £90 per day. About Our School We are a leading independent day school for students aged 5-16 who have experienced significant trauma or multiple Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs). We operate across two distinct sites designed to meet the developmental needs of our pupils: Junior Site (Newton Abbot): Years 1-8. Focused on exploration, outdoor learning, and nurturing small groups. Senior Site (Ashburton): Years 8-11. Focused on talent development, life skills, and post-16 preparation.

  • Targeted Interventions: Deliver tailored 1:1 and small-group interventions focusing on emotional regulation, social skills, and self-esteem, aligned with students' Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs)
  • Nurturing Academic Support: Help students access a modified curriculum, breaking down tasks to reduce frustration and celebrating small victories to foster a sense of achievement
  • Building Restorative Relationships: Act as a trusted adult and mentor, helping students understand their emotions, repair relationships, and develop crucial life and coping skills
  • Collaborative Safeguarding & Reporting: Work alongside a multi-disciplinary team to track behavioural trends, update risk assessments, and maintain rigorous safeguarding records
