Job Description:

Bloom is currently seeking a Transportation/Railroad Engineer with knowledge in Transportation and Railroad design principles. Our family of engineers is growing, and we would love the chance to see if you fit in with the culture we have built. We believe that any person with enough self-motivation can achieve anything, and that everyone deserves the chance to prove themselves. Every new employee brings with them unique talents and perspectives. We see value in that here at Bloom. We have developed a mentor-mentee culture that allows us to all share our experiences with one another; and in return we can all grow personally and professionally. Where you have shortcomings, others in the company may have strengths. Keep that in mind as you read through our preferred additional qualifications below. We see value in anything you can bring to the table; even if it’s something other than what we have listed here.

Job Responsibility:

  • Assist, under the direction of Bloom leadership, in all transportation & Rail infrastructure design tasks required for each unique project
  • Conducting site visits and general data collection efforts to support the design
  • Providing design for all track design facets of transit and railroad projects
  • Coordinating and leading engineering efforts on rail infrastructure projects ranging from planning and design to construction support and maintenance
  • Establishing and maintaining strong, effective relationships with external clients and market services to transit agencies and local railroads
  • Sustaining the growth of younger engineers by assigning appropriate technical tasks and promoting a culture of growing technical excellence
  • Contributing to design reports. This may include calculation workbooks, alternative analysis, and cost estimating
  • Assisting the design team with bringing all project deliverables to completion. This may include: plans, specifications, permits, and design reports
  • Ensuring projects are being completed on time and on budget
  • Interacting and communicating effectively with Bloom leadership, design team members, clients, project owners, and other project stakeholders
  • Attending project meetings and represent the company professionally
  • Participating in Bloom’s mentor/mentee culture

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering
  • 7 to 12 years of experience
  • Ability to work independently or in a team setting to complete all assigned project design tasks
  • Good decision-making skills, flexibility, focus on quality, and attention to detail
  • Excellent communication skills

Nice to have:

  • Illinois Professional Engineer License
  • Additional software experience is a plus. This may include AutoCAD, Civil3D, GIS, MicroStation, Bluebeam and/or Microsoft Office software (Excel, Word, and PowerPoint)
  • Participation in professional association is desired (i.e. AREMA, APTA, etc.)
