The Transport Supervisor will support the operational needs of Sigma Logistics to ensure transport availability and delivery in line with the agreed business plan. This role is key to maintaining efficient day-to-day transport operations, supporting the Head of Transport and planning function, and developing strong relationships with third-party logistics (3PL) providers. The successful candidate will also be responsible for analysing performance data, improving service levels, and contributing to operational and commercial success.
Job Responsibility:
Lead the operational transport team, including planners and drivers, ensuring efficient daily performance
Deputise for the Transport Manager when required
Work closely with internal departments and external suppliers to coordinate transport activities
Support transport planning, including allocation of vehicles and drivers
Maintain and update transport systems and ensure data accuracy
Develop and improve transport processes and operating systems
Build and manage relationships with 3PL providers
Analyse tachograph and vehicle data to ensure compliance and performance
Support fleet management, including maintenance scheduling
Manage driver inductions (agency and employed drivers)
Produce transport reports, KPIs, and costings
Oversee invoice reconciliation and resolve supplier queries
Ensure transport bookings and amendments are managed within agreed timelines
Identify and resolve day-to-day operational issues
Support wider business functions, projects, and continuous improvement initiatives
Requirements:
1–2 years’ experience in a transport supervisory or management role
Proven experience managing drivers and transport operations
Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
Good knowledge of UK geography
Understanding of transport legislation and compliance requirements
Ability to multitask and work under pressure in a fast-paced environment
Experience with transport systems and booking platforms
Strong IT skills, including Microsoft Office (especially Excel) and Sage
Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to use initiative
Professional and confident communication style
Flexible, adaptable, and proactive approach
Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
Full UK driving licence
Nice to have:
Transport Manager CPC (Desirable)
