Job Description

We are seeking a highly organised and proactive Transport Planner to join a busy and growing transport department for our client based in Grays. This is a hands-on role where you'll be responsible for the smooth coordination of daily logistics, driver management, and operational planning.

Job Responsibility

  • Allocate daily workloads and plan transport transactions
  • Monitor and reconcile transfer station loads
  • Ensure compliance with KPIs for major contracts
  • Manage broker charges for WJs and additional services
  • Debrief drivers and maintain emergency route backups
  • Maintain operational spreadsheets
  • Attend driver meetings and support training initiatives
  • Action compliance database tasks and outstanding vehicle defects
  • Ensure vehicle coverage during absences or breakdowns
  • Book disposal sites and internal haulage loads
  • Monitor driver performance and working hours
  • Manage driver absences and recruitment
  • Promote awareness of FORS accreditation
  • Handle re-routing, round sequencing, and bank holiday replanning
  • Raise driver paperwork and arrange hire vehicles for MOTs/breakdowns
  • Challenge PCNs and complete accident/incident forms
  • Oversee tyre management and address driver complaints
  • Respond to early morning/out-of-hours driver queries
  • Ensure all new drivers are trained to company standards

Requirements

  • Experience in transport planning or logistics coordination
  • Strong communication and organisational skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities under pressure
  • Familiarity with transport management systems and tracking tools
