As a Transport Co-ordinator you will be accountable to the Logistics Section Manager and responsible for ensuring our drivers are carrying out their duties in line with company policies and Road Haulage legislation. You will be tasked with meeting the objectives outlined in the daily transport plan to ensure we are delivering to our customers on time and in full.
Job Responsibility:
Brief drivers before they depart on route details, and specific customer requirements
Allocating tractor units and trailers ensuring all allocated fleet is roadworthy
Daily verification of agency driver licences and declarations prior to issuing driver packs and vehicle keys
Liaise with Transport/Despatch Team Leaders or Logistics Section Managers to resolve real-time issues and escalating/communicating to the relevant Avara Teams where necessary
Update customers systems if delays occur by making use of our tracking systems, as well as verbal communications with drivers throughout the day
When drivers report defects ensure that the defect procedure is followed, liaise with the Compliance Administrator to ensure vehicle defects are escalated and actioned in a timely manner
Working closely with the Compliance Administrator and other Avara Transport teams to ensure all planned maintenance is achieved by ensuring vehicles are parked up and made available according to the service schedule
Handling and actioning calls relating to driver breakdowns, delivery discrepancies or delays etc. and escalating where appropriate
Working with the Transport Team Leaders to ensure all routes are covered on a daily basis
Requirements:
Excellent communication skills both written and verbal
Experience of using Microsoft packages in particular Excel
Accuracy and attention to detail, with good analytical skills
Ability to manage time paired with the ability to prioritise and plan volumes and departmental workloads affectively
Knowledge of all aspects of Road Haulage legislation
Good geographical knowledge with some experience of routing and scheduling a fleet of vehicles
Ability to form good working relationships with all colleagues and managers
The ability to work proactively and reactively and able to make clear assessments and the appropriate decision/action
Knowledge and understanding of all Transport relating systems, for example Tachomaster, Telematics, tracking systems etc.
