Leicestershire County Council is looking for a dedicated and detail-oriented Transport Assessor to join our Highways & Transportation team. This role is pivotal in ensuring that passenger transport services, including provision for service users with disabilities, are safe, efficient, and legally compliant.
Job Responsibility:
Assess eligibility and deliver home-to-school transport services, including for children with Special Educational Needs
Maintain accurate records, prepare reports, and manage data relating to service users
Liaise with parents, schools, colleges, colleagues, and external contractors to ensure transport services meet operational standards
Support appeals processes, undertake risk assessments, and develop travel plans to continuously improve service quality
Provide guidance on transport arrangements, specialist equipment, and Health & Safety compliance
Work collaboratively to resolve operational challenges and contribute to efficiency improvements
Requirements:
NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in a relevant area, or demonstrable experience in transport assessment or service delivery
Strong skills in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, Outlook) and analytical abilities to interpret reports
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to engage with service users, parents, colleagues, and external bodies
Ability to work independently, manage your workload, and thrive in a busy, pressurised environment
Full, valid driving licence and access to a vehicle to travel across the County
Nice to have:
Risk assessment qualifications (e.g., British Safety Council Level 2)
Experience in transport, assessment, or procurement environments
Confidence in dealing with challenging conversations and negotiation with partners
Familiarity with passenger transport operational issues and Health & Safety risk assessments
