Job Description

Supermac's Distribution Centre is currently seeking a Transport & Logistics Manager for their depot in Ballybrit Business Park, Galway. The role involves responsibility for the management of a fleet of company-owned trucks, delivering to over 100 locations throughout Ireland.

Job Responsibility

  • Management of a fleet of company-owned trucks, rigid and articulated vehicles, delivering on a daily basis, dry and paper products, together with perishable and frozen food products, to over 100 locations throughout Ireland
  • responsible for the day-to-day Operations, Route Planning, Compliance, Troubleshooting, Budgeting, and Cost management, together with planned maintenance and upkeep of the fleet
  • management and rostering of drivers, managing driver hours, holidays, compliance, health & safety around transport
  • working with the Warehouse & Purchasing Managers to ensure a coordinated and timely delivery of goods in keeping with the main business needs
  • management and supervision of the Route Planning, factoring in new locations to deliver and collect from, as well as evaluating routes in the interest of driver hours, efficiency, and vehicle suitability
  • management of all transport personnel including recruitment and onboarding of drivers, and ensuring they are fully trained and set up to meet required standards
  • scheduling of full and part-time drivers every week, in keeping with the demands of the business
  • actively involved in driving, evaluating routes and truck efficiency, whilst remaining hands-on and able to oversee all maintenance of vehicles and relevant compliance in keeping with legislation
  • planning resources in terms of trucks and personnel to meet demand during high-volume weekends/seasonality
  • managing driver holidays to ensure cover and fairness
  • understanding our business, ensuring the transport function fully supports our stores and thus ensuring the delivery of first-class products and customer service at all times
  • planning, arranging, monitoring, and controlling maintenance and testing of vehicles and maintaining all associated up-to-date documentation (operational, administrative & legal)
  • management of Breakdowns, Costings, Compliance, Route Planning, Productivity, and Labour resources
  • compliance with all Legal, Regulatory, and Company Standards about the transport of goods/organisation of working time/employment law
  • ensuring adherence to the company H&S Policy and proactively contributing to the maintenance of a safe working environment
  • working with warehousing and other departments professionally and courteously, mindful of the many challenges each department has, and bringing a cooperative approach to enable a positive working environment

Requirements

  • A full Rigid (Essential) and Artic Licence (Desirable)
  • up-to-date Digi Card and CPC training
  • minimum of 3 years recent experience managing the Transport Function, including drivers, maintenance of trucks, compliance with legislation, whilst maintaining budgets and efficiency
  • outgoing personality
  • good knowledge of the transport systems in Ireland
  • enthusiastic approach to work
  • excellent verbal and written English
  • excellent telephone manner
  • good computer skills, able to negotiate various relevant computer packages, including Microsoft Windows
  • good standard of education, preferably with a third-level qualification or relevant diploma, ideally related to logistics, transport, or supply chain (preferred)
  • experience in the tight control of operating costs and ensuring regulatory compliance
  • good understanding of the role of Transport & Logistics Manager
  • strongly committed to staff as well as personal development
