Job Description:

MaineHealth Division of Nephrology is seeking a full time Transplant Nephrology physician to join their well-established, collegial group in Portland. We provide a full array of clinical services that encompass acute and chronic kidney disease, renal replacement therapy, apheresis, critical care and interventional nephrology, kidney transplantation, renal sonography, and kidney biopsy. This physician will spend a significant amount of time in the transplant nephrology practice caring for pre and post kidney transplant recipients and living donors both inpatient, outpatient, and in consultation on a variety of medical units at Maine Medical Center. S/he will join an experienced and dedicated multidisciplinary transplant care team which provides highly personalized care to end stage renal patients in Maine and New Hampshire. The Transplant Program, which performs 40-50 transplants per year, offers a rare opportunity to join during an exciting phase of growth and modernization. Job Responsibility:

  • spend a significant amount of time in the transplant nephrology practice caring for pre and post kidney transplant recipients and living donors both inpatient, outpatient, and in consultation on a variety of medical units at Maine Medical Center
  • Teaching and mentoring nephrology fellows, IM residents and medical students

Requirements:

  • MD/DO from an accredited medical school
  • Fellowship-trained in Nephrology
  • Completion of an American Society of Transplant (AST) Accredited Transplant Nephrology Fellowship
  • Board Certified/Board Eligible in Nephrology

  • Provides physical and psychosocial support, patient education, wound care, management of hypertension, phlebotomy and general nursing care
  • Develops a nursing care plan for kidney transplant recipients that include assisting patients with independent management of prescribed medical regimen
  • Monitors patients to rule out rejection, and documents patient lab results and physical findings, and collaborates with surgeons and nephrologist to provide treatment options
  • Reviews and interprets patient test results in collaboration with surgeons and nephrologists
  • Coordinates surgical and diagnostic interventions prescribed by the surgeon and/or nephrologists’ transplant process
  • Contacts patients (timeliness is essential) at end of clinic visit to review plan of care and make any necessary adjustments in anti-rejection medications
  • Assists hospital nursing staff in the post-operative care of the kidney transplant.regarding the patients through care coordination and oversight
  • Assists in the coordination of patient care and the monitoring of nursing care of the kidney transplant recipient through active involvement in treatment planning
