Nick Corieri with Robert Half is looking for a Training Director to guide workforce education initiatives for a union-connected construction training organization in Syracuse, New York. This position will shape apprenticeship and skills development programs that prepare workers for safe, productive performance across a regional service area. The role combines leadership of instructional teams, oversight of compliance-driven training operations, and close collaboration with industry partners to meet evolving labor needs.
Job Responsibility:
Lead the planning and delivery of construction, safety, and skills-based training for apprentices and experienced tradespeople
Manage the administration of a registered apprenticeship program, including participant intake, advancement tracking, and adherence to program standards
Provide direction and support to instructors and training personnel while encouraging practical, hands-on learning methods
Monitor training activities to ensure alignment with safety regulations, apprenticeship requirements, and applicable compliance expectations
Partner with contractors and workforce organizations to build training calendars that reflect project demands and labor market needs
Oversee daily training center operations, including equipment readiness, facility use, and budget stewardship
Maintain organized documentation for certifications, compliance reporting, and apprenticeship records
Expand learning opportunities through specialty courses and upgrade training that support long-term workforce growth
Requirements:
At least 3 years of experience in construction, workforce development, training leadership, or a closely related field
Working knowledge of apprenticeship frameworks and construction safety training requirements
Demonstrated ability to lead teams, communicate effectively, and manage multiple priorities in a structured environment
Background in the construction industry with familiarity in employee training and instructor-led program delivery
Ability to work in shop, field, industrial, and outdoor training settings as needed
Availability for occasional evening or weekend activities based on program schedules
Nice to have:
Journey-level trade experience, instructor credentials, or experience with union-affiliated training programs
Exposure to workforce grant administration or accredited training environments
