Job Description:

Trainee Track Engineer role within the Story Scotland Early Careers Programme, based in Blantyre office with travel to sites. Combines practical experience on live projects with academic learning at University of West Scotland (Paisley Campus) on block release as part of a bespoke Rail Engineering cohort for the Civil Engineering Graduate Apprenticeship, working towards a BEng (Hons) in Civil Engineering.

Job Responsibility:

  • Work alongside experienced Track Engineers
  • Gain experience of a variety of Railway projects
  • Assist in engineering disciplines
  • Learn from site team
  • Opportunity to manage and build client relationships
  • Develop skills in Railway-specific site procedures and safety standards (PTS, OLEC1)
  • Develop skills in surveying and setting out using rail technologies
  • Develop skills in understanding and applying Network Rail standards and Story quality processes
  • Develop commercial awareness and programme-driven delivery
  • Enhance communication, teamwork and organisation while operating in a professional environment spanning office and site work

Requirements:

  • Meet university course eligibility requirements
  • Full UK driving license advantageous
  • Resided in Scotland for at least 3 years immediately before course start and will reside in Scotland throughout studies
  • Hold settled UK immigration status
  • Scottish Highers: BCCC (90 UCAS Tariff points) including Maths, plus National 5 Physics at B
  • A Levels: CCD (88 UCAS Tariff points) including Maths and Physics
  • Selected Foundation Apprenticeships are accepted and can replace one Higher (equivalent to a B grade)
